چکیده

Two-photon absorption and blue-light-induced red absorption (BLIRA) is demonstrated in lithium tantalate LiTaO3 waveguides with ultrashort laser pulses. The blue transmission is modeled for hyperbolic-secantsquared pulses of blue light and is shown to be heavily attenuated by two-photon absorption. The blue light also generates traps for red light, which are absorbed through single-photon interactions. Over 50% red absorption is observed. The blue pulse energy dependence of BLIRA is shown to follow recent theoretical models that rely on two different physical mechanisms depending on the temporal overlap of the pump and probe pulses. The time dependence of BLIRA is explored experimentally and is shown to fit well to a stretchedexponential model. Finally, we investigate the effects of pulse shaping and find that, over our range of pulse durations, the amount of BLIRA is relatively insensitive to pulse shape. © 2006 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: 190.7110, 230.7380, 320.7130.

Pulsed squeezed-light generation in x (2) nonlinear waveguides

We present a brief history of experimental studies of quadrature squeezing, a tutorial on the physical origin and theory of squeezing, and our experimental study of squeezing by means of x (2) (second-order) nonlinear waveguides. We recently obtained 28% squeezing in quasi-phase-matched LiTaO3 waveguides, using picosecond pulses. The amount of squeezing appears to be limited primarily by blue-l...

Ultrafast Kerr-induced all-optical wavelength conversion in silicon waveguides using 1.55 mum femtosecond pulses.

The propagation of 300 femtosecond optical pulses in Silicon-on Insulator waveguides has been studied by means of a pump-probe set-up. The ultrafast pulses allowed the observation of large Kerr-induced red and blue shifts (9nm and 15nm, respectively) of the probe signal depending on the delay between pump (1554nm) and probe (1683nm) pulses. A numerical model taking into account the Kerr effect,...

Ultra-fast all-optical wavelength conversion in silicon waveguides using femtosecond pulses

In this work, the propagation of 300 femtosecond optical pulses in Silicon-on Insulator waveguides has been studied by means of a pump-probe set-up. Large Cross Phase Modulation (XPM) induced red and blue shifts (9nm and 15nm, respectively) of the probe signal have been observed depending on the delay between pump (1554nm) and probe (1683nm) pulses. A numerical model taking into account Two Pho...

Visible light photocatalytic activity of MWCNT/TiO2 using the degradation of methylene blue

Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT)-doped TiO2 thin films were synthesized by the dip-coating method. The obtained products were characterized by SEM, EDX, XRD, and UV-vis absorption spectroscopy. The XRD patterns showed the presence of anatase phase. Absorption spectrum of MWCNT-doped TiO2 revealed a red shift in the optical absorption edge due to carbon doping. The photocatalytic properties...

Ultrafast all-optical switching by cross-absorption modulation in silicon wire waveguides.

We describe the use of two-photon absorption in submicron silicon wire waveguides for all-optical switching by cross-absorption modulation. Optical pulses of 3.2 ps were successfully converted from high power pump to low power continuous-wave signal with a fast recovery time. High speed operation was based on the induced optical absorption from non-degenerate two-photon absorption inside the wa...
